About Me

Lea Tanenbaum

I founded Headstart Counseling to create a space that feels meaningful and approachable. Our work here honors authenticity and collaboration, where inner exploration, while transformative, can feel intimidating. Continuing to display dedication to oneself and the process requires courage. My role is to support and scaffold that process to make it more accessible and less daunting.

I believe real growth happens when you feel safe enough to bring your full self into the room — sometimes making space to discover who that “full self,” is in real time. That sense of safety then opens you up to feedback, reflection, and new possibilities. In our work together, I aim to meet you where you are, adapting my style to fit your needs. I bring curiosity, reflection, and gentle challenges to help you grow at your own pace.

I support clients navigating depression, anxiety, overthinking, emotional distress, self-judgment, and difficulties with emotional regulation.

I welcome those who are new to counseling as well as those seeking a fresh connection with a new clinician.

I accept those with existing diagnoses, with particular focus on personality disorders and persistent grief.

I work with individuals and couples, focusing on identity development, clear communication, and appropriate boundary setting.

Headstart Counseling was born from the belief that everyone deserves a strong beginning and a solid foundation. Here, you’ll find care that centers on you; a guilt-free space to receive the attention, positivity, and tools to progress your healing journey.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers or know exactly where your journey will lead but I will walk alongside you.

If you’re curious about whether this feels like the right fit, I’d be glad to connect and answer any questions. You’re welcome to meet the person before committing to the process.
